Les cinéastes de tous les pays, de tous les continents, de toutes les communautés ont, longtemps, été confrontés aux dangers de l'hégémonie de quelques grandes sociétés de production et de distribution dictant leurs goûts majoritaires aux salles de cinéma du monde entier.

 

L'action de véritables créateurs-auteurs dans tous les domaines du processus de fabrication des films, des œuvres ainsi que l'irruption des nouvelles technologies numériques ont éloigné la menace de standardisation de ce que de nombreux intervenants appellent encore le "produit cinéma" comme s'il s'agissait d'une marchandise comme une autre.

De plus en plus de réalisateurs et de scénaristes dans le monde veulent créer des œuvres personnelles et originales et la diminution des coûts liés aux techniques numériques ouvre de nouvelles voies à l'expression, libérée du diktat du financement.

 

Cependant, revers de la médaille, le numérique, base de la société de l'information et de la convergence des médias, représente également deux grandes menaces sur les œuvres cinématographiques.  Tout d'abord le piratage puis le fait que pour certain groupe de médias le cinéma n'est qu'un divertissement et, à ce titre, il peut faire l'objet de n'importe quelle manipulation : raccourcissement, saucissonnage, coupures diverses (publicitaires ou informations), conditions de diffusion sur n'importe quel support (ex. micro écran de téléphone portable);  toutes manipulations qui multiplient les risques de piratage.

 

Ces groupes,  qui n'ont pas hésité à transformer des œuvres musicales en sonnerie de téléphone et à coloriser des chefs d'œuvre en noir et blanc, n'hésiteront pas à transformer les œuvres cinématographiques en "gadget audiovisuel" au mépris de tout respect de la volonté des cinéastes et sous prétexte de rentabilité financière des œuvres.

 

C'est pour lutter contre cette "gadgétisation" du cinéma et protéger la liberté, la créativité et la diversité des cinéastes qu'a été fondée "l'Alliance du cinéma mondial", au festival de Venise en 2006.

 

Dans le cadre du VIIème colloque sur la politique européenne du cinéma et de l'audiovisuel qui se déroulera sur l'île d'Ischia, à la Fondation Villa Luchino Visconti, dans la baie de Naples, l'Alliance du Cinéma mondial invitera une cinquantaine de cinéastes des cinq continents à réfléchir, participer, débattre et s'exprimer lors de journées de travail sur le thème: "Créativité du cinéma, moteur de la nouvelle économie et de la diversité culturelle en Europe et dans le monde", du 12 au 14 mai 2007, quelques jours avant l'ouverture du festival du film de Cannes.

Il sera également question, lors de ces journées, de la libre circulation des films dans le monde face à la mondialisation et aux nouvelles technologies.

Nous évoquerons aussi l'urgence de développement de l'éducation à l'image dès l'enfance afin d'éviter la manipulation des jeunes spectateurs vers le "tout divertissement".

Filmmakers from every country, from every continent, from every community, have long faced the dangers of the hegemony of a few major production and distribution companies dictating their majority tastes to cinemas around the world.

 

The action of true creators-authors in all areas of the process of making films, works as well as the bursting of new digital technologies have removed the threat of standardization of what many speakers still call the "film product" as if it were a commodity like any other.

More and more filmmakers and screenwriters around the world want to create original and personal works, and lowering the cost of digital technology opens new avenues for expression, freed from the dictates of funding.

 

However, the other side of the coin, digital, the basis of the information society and the convergence of the media, also represents two major threats to cinematographic works. First of all the piracy then the fact that for certain group of media the cinema is only an entertainment and, as such, it can be the subject of any manipulation: shortening, sausage, various cuts ( advertising or information), broadcasting conditions on any medium (eg micro-screen mobile phone); all manipulations that increase the risk of piracy.

 

These groups, who have not hesitated to transform musical works into a telephone ring and to colorize black and white masterpieces, will not hesitate to turn cinematographic works into "audiovisual gadgets" in defiance of all respect. the will of the filmmakers and under the pretext of financial profitability of the works.

 

It is to fight against this "gadgetisation" of the cinema and to protect the freedom, the creativity and the diversity of the filmmakers that was founded "Alliance of the world cinema", at the festival of Venice in 2006.

 

As part of the VIIth Symposium on European Film and Audiovisual Policy to be held on the Island of Ischia at the Villa Luchino Visconti Foundation in the Bay of Naples, the World Film Alliance will invite around 50 of filmmakers from five continents to reflect, participate, debate and express themselves during working days on the theme: "Creativity of cinema, engine of the new economy and cultural diversity in Europe and in the world", from 12 to May 14, 2007, a few days before the opening of the Cannes Film Festival.

During these days, we will also discuss the free movement of films around the world in the face of globalization and new technologies.

We will also discuss the urgency of developing image education from childhood to avoid the manipulation of young spectators to "all entertainment".
